Our Story
For over fifteen years, the Traders Association Ella has united the hotels, cafés, villas, and tour operators that make our hill country one of Sri Lanka's most beloved destinations.
To empower every hospitality business in Ella — large or small — with the community, knowledge, and opportunity to thrive together, while preserving the soul of our mountain town.
Our Beginnings
How a handful of guesthouse owners sparked a movement
In 2009, a small group of guesthouse owners gathered at a tea house near the Nine Arch Bridge with a shared frustration: tourism in Ella was booming, but the local businesses powering it were working in isolation, competing instead of collaborating.
What began as informal monthly meetings soon became something far greater. Members pooled knowledge on hosting international guests, negotiated together with suppliers across Badulla and the wider Uva province, and lifted standards across every property in town.
Today the Traders Association Ella represents hundreds of hotels, cafés, villas, and tour operators. Yet our purpose remains exactly what it was at that first meeting — to grow together, support one another, and protect the unique character of Ella for the generations of travellers still to come.
